I remember watching a documentary where they were discussing marketing vodka, where most are used for shots or mixers, and consumers can easily pick up a bottom-shelf product and it gets the job done. In many cases, manufacturers had to work really hard to dress up the bottle to make it look cool to increase sales. There was another example where a tequila company tried to sell their product in Dubai, a country where very few gave a damn for tequila..What they did was created an exotic looking bottle to help project an image that screams money and exclusivity.
Not to digress from this thread, but sobieski and stolichnaya branded vodka are great sippers if you are interested in this spirit.
