It really depends on what type of work you'll be doing too. 3D rendering/CAD, you'll want a work station video card. Video editing/ photo editing, iteration based calculation, mathematical modelling, numerical analysis, finite element methods/analysis, RAM + CPU power. Microsoft Office, this setup is overkill.
Edit: Unless you're running a server or mathematical modelling, more cores won't get your work done any faster.

i guess there need to be some clarification. by work i mean the standard Microsoft Office suite

Some photoshop and audio editing although i don't know if I can get use to not using a mac for these things, Can't get away from Logic pro. I will probably use the video card for gaming the most, so i think the new rx480 might be way overkill.
What i mean as server is really just accessing files remotely. Would like to keep the whole setup 800$ or so.
How about software? where do i find a cheap but legit copy of windows? And which version of windows are most backward compatible with older softwares??
I have SSD on my macbook pro, its awesome but i'm thinking its overkill for this desktop setup that probably gonna be on 24/7 anyways. It is not a vital item and can be added later on
