Can't answer the parking situation thing because I don't work downtown and I also don't feel comfortable leaving my bike anywhere out of sight, hence why I don't even have own a lock. I like the Gaint Defy series and would be my recommendation for a good balance of value and performance.
On another note, anyone doing the 149km Canada Day Populaire? It's probably the cheapest ride you can register for. It's $25 to register right now and $30 on the day itself.
