apparently the ball and semi circle thing is its potential when you evolve it.
Pikachu A 100 cp ---o--------------------
Pikachu B 100 cp ------------------o-----
and when you power up your pokemon that potential goes up, so when you do go to evolve it, it ends up with higher CP
but thats just what i heard
