924's are considered the ugliest Porsches ever made, and "the poor man's Porsche" They used a VW truck engine, hence why people would call Porsches "VW's", because it basically was.
You'd have to really be in love with the aesthetics of a 924, and if you were to buy one, look out for a 924S, the later models, as they used the exact same engine as the 944, but the car was lighter so technically faster.
But then you're opting for the same car with no flared wheel arches and those big DOT bicycle reflectors. And in 1986 you could get the 944 with the much more modern interior. The 924 and early 944 interior is nasty and old.
And remember, "there's nothing more expensive than a cheap Porsche."
