I just use power, monitor, and daisy chain a 4 port USB hub & 2 port HP USB hub into my MonitorMate USB hub stand which has 7 USB3.0, and memory card slots. All my external HDD & input devices are connected to the hubs along with bluetooth audio into a stereo system to cut down on plugging a aux into my Mac.

Recently just got a hub for my USB devices so that reduced it to just 1. But pretty much all ports are used up except for the HDMI.
