Not alone, but did a lot of Hostel stays all over Asia and some part some parts of Europe. Theres a time and place when shared hostel accomodation is acceptable in ones life. I know, that I've gotten past that part of my life now because my last stay in one was just simply miserable. Sometimes you just don't realize how old you are until you're the one in bed, at 11pm, shaking a fist at them whipper snappers just getting ready for their night out with their pre-game.
If you've never done the shared hostel thing, I definitely say do it. But don't book all your accomodation that way right off the bat.
