I do it often. I was at my mom's care facility on Christmas Day and dude in an old school Volkswagen Van was stuck on the side of the road. I thought I had my tow rope with me, but forgot to put it back into the trunk of the Ridgeline that day. I did however, have one of those military fold-up shovels. Had it for at least three years and never took it out of the plastic bag until that day, LOL. Got good use out of it. The beauty of those fold up shovels is the size. It takes up little to no room whatsoever.

There are better ones out there. Some have multiple use features built in. I can't remember where, but there's a video of one where the Chinese? Army was showing off how much better theirs was compared to the American Army ones. Someone please send link if they find it.


As for tow ropes, they are cheap and come in handy. I got my shovel and tow rope from Princess Auto. Just make sure you get a good quality tow rope with well designed hooks and high rated strength.
