Going out for dinner is about a great experience, sure it might cost more, but I would rather go out less and really enjoy myself instead of worrying about every cost when you are going out.
I disagree when I go out it's for the meal with no dishes usually prepared a lot better then I could prepare it myself, I could care less about the alcohol. I think if you need alcohol to have a great experience you're doing it wrong but that's just one guys opinion.
