Wife and I are looking at ripping out the kitchen we have and are considering the Ikea cabinets pretty seriously. We've looked at a few places in Richmond that build custom cabinets and they are either not as well made as the Ikea units (though it's real wood) or significantly pricier than Ikea (and even those aren't that well made).

Would like to get some opinions from those who have installed kitchens on how the quality compares with the small businesses out there (and do you know ones you'd recommend?)

Our kitchen is about a 10x12 and Ikea would run about $10-11K installed by Modus (w/ a quartz countertop) and the quotes I've been getting elsewhere have ranged from $15-22K. With the Ikea one we may even install it ourselves - looks fairly straightforward.
