I've used duplicolor sandable primer on my styrene kits, but usually things where finish isn't my main concern like the chassis/suspension components. I haven't had any issues with it being "too hot" as some people say. as for thickness, lots of very light coats is the way around that.

its way more cost effective than tamiya primer. That being said, I use tamiya primer on the bodies just cause its so fine most of the time I don't even need to do sand it before colour.
