I plan on canceling the aeroplan card too since it requires me to pay $120 annually for the card... the thing is i don't even use those "perks" that you mentioned

Keep in mind that she is very, very basic banking - so just debit use, occasional ATM withdrawal, and light CC use.
All 7-11's are scotiabank ATMs so there's never a shortage of ATMs, and there are basically zero fees to worry about.
