They don't specify with dimension like, for example Air Canada does where they actually say dimensions for the personal item, so I was wondering if I would run into any trouble bringing a backpack that would be classified as okay on Air Canada as a personal item.
I know I could just check-in the one bag and keep my backpack as the carry-on, but I would prefer to be in and out of the airport with my stuff in a timely matter.
Thoughts?

As long as it stows under the seat in front of you completely it should be fine.
