I have that exact stand and use it regularly for washing the bikes and some simple mechanical work. No matter how hard you crank it down it is not super sturdy - I wouldn't want to be trying to press in BB cups or something with it, but it works perfectly well for a quick adjustment of brakes, derailleurs, etc.
