SRS light in 99 Civic SiR - does it always mean replace the SRS reel?
So, the horn and cruise controls in my em1 stopped working for some months before I stopped driving the car around a year ago.
I recently went to a scrap yard and found a Civic Si (Canadian) SRS reel and installed it in my car. The SRS light went away, but the horn and cruise control still didn't work.
Also, even though my original clockspring causes the SRS light to show up, if I press the horn butting, the horn relay makes a clicking noise, indicating to me that signal is making it from the clockspring to the relay. But with the replacement reel, even though it doesn't cause the SRS light to turn on, when I press the horn, there is no clicking sound from the horn relay.
The D-branded SRS reel from the Canadian Si also has a smaller turning range than the JD-branded SiR reel that was originally in my car.
I'm thinking of next buying a used clockspring that specifically came off an SiR / USA Si, and hoping for the best. But are there other avenues of troubleshooting you'd consider exploring before doing that?
Also, I opened up and inspected my original SRS reel, and put it back together. It visually appears all good to me, since I didn't notice any sign of breakage anywhere.
