I have the Shimano m530 on my road bike. It's double sided so it's not annoying trying to find the clip in side and there's enough surface area for you to wear normal shoes if you wanna do short trips.
Seawall is a terrible place to get a decent ride in. Tons of people that don't know the difference between bike/walking lanes. Give the central valley greenway route a try. It's fairly flat.
