I've had friends that's had their phones stolen in bali in different occasions
and family who was extorted by the police in mexico (also pulled over for "speeding")
I try to practice street smarts when travelling solo but still paranoid about losing my photo gear...I don't flash it but some times I can spend like an hour in one spot trying to get the shots
