for boarding i like jackets with a powder skirt. of course it'll work fine but if it's primarily for boarding i don't think it's the best choice. $500 is cheap for arc'teryx but you can find a more fully featured jacket from another brand for that price.
just got an ames jacket. i had a sidewinter sv from like 8 years ago that started to delaminate so they gave me credit. figured since i rarely if ever board anymore, a city jacket would be a good choice. happy with it.
