My older brother: Repeated half of grade 12, dropped out of post-secondary twice, went through odd jobs here and there but slowly built up skill sets. Landed fresh job back in 2008 through a less than honest resume and has been employed there since.
Current: Has townhouse but soon-to-be detached home, a then new (2012) GTi and a then new (2017) Fusion Sport. Has 2 young kids and wife recently lost her job but he can still support all four of them till she gets a new job. He recently turned down multiple offers for a $100k+ a year job promotion, deciding he will take it when his kids are older and the offer comes around again.
Me: Graduated with B average from grade 12 Graduated twice from post secondary (2 diplomas) while working at least 30 hours a week at a grocery store.
Present: Rents an apartment and drives a 20 year old car. Makes livable wage but savings are minimal by end of month.
Oh life, you taught me so well!
Sometimes when I have nice dreams while asleep, I like to think they are life's way of apologizing to me.

Don't be so hard on yourself. It's all timing - everything is timing.
My mother: made like 20-40k a year with 4 kids, single mother doesn't speak english, does not have local connections - immigrant.
A great planner and saver she is. Able to buy a 3100 sqft Vancouver home.
Me: born and raised in Vancouver. Young. Millennial. Making 100k. Nowhere near buying a detached home. That's a far-fetched goal. I'm not that bad at saving either.
It's all timing buddy.
