We won't have an exact budget until RRSP/taxes are are filed. But we're thinking 30k?
I was toying around with spending only a third of that on an older high-mileage Sienna as a transition van. Kids are 2 years and 2 months right now, so I'm not sure I want to spend much on a van they'll mess up anyway. Wife shut that down pretty quickly cause we'll still be spending a fair bit of time in it.
Why couldn't the Japanese models be cheaper? Or the Chryslers be more reliable?

Japanese models can be found for a reasonable price, just takes a bit of patience. I was quite shocked on how much value the 11 Sienna SE value holds compared to the Odyssey.
My kids are roughly the same age and I am totally expecting them to trash it as the time comes

that's where the rear entertainment system comes in as a distraction tool.

For your kids' current age, a mini minivan could probably offer enough space? Maybe you can do that with the samller minivan for a few years, and then upgrade to a bigger one as your kids grow...

I tried cross shopping with a Mazda 5 and it didn't quite work out. A bit small for me. And the transition stage from mini minivan to a minivan is too much hassle. That's just my opinion
Need to be able to haul around in laws, full size stroller, groceries, ETC without having to fold the rear seats down.
