Best thing I recommend as a starter is to start in the outskirts of the map. NW corner is a great location. Has at least 10-15 chests in that area and fairly secluded. Once you get the hang of things, playing aggresive is much more fun. I used to do a lot of outskirts first and be fully looted up 5-10mins to all of a sudden get killed so the time wasting really sucked.

Also to fly further spam the parachute button and you will go further.. This will help get across the map easier and typically the further you go the less amount of people there will be.
