Wirecutter recommends the Ego 56V if you're going electric.

I have ~2,000 sf of lawn and ended up with a low end Lawn Boy push mower (the push version of what Wirecutter recommends). It ran about $300-350 I think and does a reasonable job - I have a pretty thick lawn and it does bog down a bit when I mulch. Would have loved to get a Honda though but my yard ain't quite big enough for me to justify that.
