I think one of the comments really summarized well why the price of R's are going through the roof. Nostalgia is a powerful thing.

"I recently got the one I won a few weeks ago (29k 2000 Black) – and while most people think I overpaid, what only I can value is how much I was willing put into having my own time machine sitting in my garage.

Sitting in the car, touching the panels and shifter, smelling some of the original car smell, really take me back to my early 20’s – and that’s worth the premium you pay for these. The value of these cars is much more than the physical performance they have as automobiles.

I can remember sitting in my Integra wondering if 120 seconds of Autocrossing was worth the whole day sitting and waiting at an event. Or driving out to a track day hoping I was able to make it back home and to work the next day in the very same car..

All those days of cruising around campus and justifying ditching class since there was no premo-parking available, or setting off car alarms by punching the gas in low gear in a parking lot. Or picking up on all the hotties once they saw me drive by… Actually, I don’t think that one ever actually happened.
