I assume they planned to involve the announcers in some way, which is why I also assume it's to build up a match between the two. The thing that gave it away for me was Josh went straight for the confrontation rather than checking on JR first. That was the first thing to came to my mind when I saw the spot.
Especially now with word coming out that JR got really hurt, it is going to be HOT

He specifically asked them not to do any spots around him, as they usually do something like that on every show. Dude is 66 and is a partially paralyzed Bell's Palsy victim. Now he has to worry about contracting pneumonia and in his condition that can easily lead to death.
Oh and yes, Ospery was even scarier but has toned it down a bit lately I think.
