NXT is great because they went back to the basics. Instead of trying to get ratings (because ratings are literally irrelevant) they try to sell the PPVs instead. Just like old wrestling. This gives them the time and freedom to develop the storylines, and they do both old school and new school storylines.

Also the wrestlers are freer (not totally free) to incorporate their own style in terms of both work and promos (for better or worse). The result is great matches even on weekly TV.

It is just so damn good. I like it better than NJPW.

The problem is, the "goal" is to make it to the main roster (to get paid) and almost nobody succeeds up there. Some do, but only if they are lucky. No matter how good you are, if the WWE writers decide to give you a shit angle (Finn and Asuka being the latest examples), you are FUCKED.

Others seem to do well, like Kevin Owens and Shinsuke Nakamura most recently. I think Cien Almas will be the next guy to actually succeed on the main roster. MAYBE Ember Moon. But those are few and far between. The rest go the way of Chad Gable, Appollo Crews, etc

Hopefully the new contract allows them to make NXT the destination, where people can stay and just do the old school hourly weekly shows and build to world class PPVs. On the other hand, I do like how new people come in all the time, there's a lot more room to succeed. If Finn Balor, Samoa Joe, and Nakamura were still there, there's no way we'd be enjoying the Black vs Ciampa match.

Speaking of Black, dude is so good but man he has to get his body figured out. There's no way he'll get over on the main roster looking like that, no matter how good he is. Also needs to develop his promos more, he kind of sounds like a geek when he talks.
