Funny, I just did my front brake pads and rotors and an oil change in my garage. Super easy and straightforward.

The only time I had to go to a shop was when my air oil separator gave up. Cost $600 parts and labour. Next thing to go will probably be the water pump and it will cost $1,000 - $1,500 at the shop. Other than that I am only expecting to fix normal maintenance items.

My experience is that the Cayman is pretty reliable (knock on wood). Had a 335i with an N54 engine before this car and the BMW was way worse.
