Theoretically, I agree, and this is what I had been doing ever since I started using the Internet. However, when I first did it, it was also because of necessity, as consumer grade WiFi wasn't available. (Great... now I have just dated myself...)
It was a major PITA to route a wire through rooms, hallways, and walls. With WiFi adapters as cheap and convenient as it is now, there is certainly a lot of reasons to go with that.
(But then it also becomes a matter of having too many WiFi devices competing for the same access points, and that introduces a whole slew of other issues...)
