The main reason I didn't stud mine is because I ran them year round, and studs only help on certain types of ice anyways.
That's a pretty common sight on the road to/from the ski hill too, almost all the vehicles stuck in the ditch are trucks or AWD cars. Normally I like to help people out but if someone stuffed it because they were running on bald mud/all season tires I don't waste my time pulling them out anymore. Better they stay in the ditch until the majority of the traffic has cleared anyways, that way they're a risk to fewer people the rest of the way home.
