Posting from Hong Kong nowadays. Hope not only do you guys live through this period and keep the mod scene alive, but also somehow stop this ridiculous vendetta and blitz from happening again. I was back in Vancouver back in the early 2000s and went through the same bs you guys are going through. Got my box 1s and 2s for silly stuff like clear corners and tinted bulbs, granted yes they weren't allowed according to the MVA, but did those warrant a tow on the spot? VIs were no fun (and ridiculously expensive) and yes, they can do it whenever they want. There wasn't so much information back then, I remember once they basically forced me to go to an OK tire for VI. I can tell you to pass that VI was bullshit. Stuff like I had to put back on my STOCK springs on my koni shocks to pass, cause my aftermarket kg/mm springs were too short, but for some reason my ridiculously loud Apexi N1 fartcan passed.
Living in Hong Kong now is another story. Comparing the two enforcement forces, I realize how empowered... or overpowered North American police officers are. They have the power to basically make your days miserable over the slightest smallest reasons, and while you still gotta treat with respect like you're basically thanking them for the stop and tow "oh thank you officer for towing my car which is unsafe for the roads with my godforbidden clear corners" because you don't want your life more miserable than it already is.
Here in Hong Kong it's definitely the other way around. My modified Supra died (dead alternator) in the middle of the highway in rush hour about 2 years ago, traffic officers showed up pretty fast, and actually helped me to push the car to the shoulder while i steered inside the car. Even waited for the tow truck to arrive before leaving.
Unfortunately it does sucks though if you drive a 'hot' car like a DC2, CL7, FD2 etc. HK police are definitely biased and unfriendly on those, but you can mod the tits out of a 'classic' or expensive car, no one bats an eye unless you're acting like a dick.
And that's how it's supposed to be, you drive like a dick, be disrespectful, dangerous on the road and you get into shit. But you shouldn't be labeled a criminal because you have a lowered car. An analogy would be like they shouldn't be allowed to tag you for "dangerous driving without regard" if you're going 55 in a 50 zone.
Good luck guys.
