1:12 is getting a lot more popular, you can find 1:12 from AutoArt, Kyosho, GT Spirit and a few others. You're right, they're very expensive.
1:10 is the full size RC size, don't think there are many models in this scale but Tamiya makes all it's full-size RC in this scale. I personally think 1:8 is far too big, it would take up your entire coffee table. 1:12 is already quite large.
