You really have no idea how government and diplomacy works do you!? Canadian diplomats along with officials at Global Affairs Canada have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to secure the release, and at the very least, lawyer visitations as well as consular support to the two detained Canadians. This isn't a case where Canada is dealing with some small developing nation where it can throw its weight around and apply pressure. Our country is basically at the whim of the Chinese authorities on this matter.
Hence, why we are applying pressure by reaching out to our allies for support so that we can create more noise on the issue and create bad publicity for China. Its our best bet at securing the results we seek as a country for the detained individuals.
