Just thought this scenario was unfortunate and unfair. Thanks for your input. I don't have much if any experience disputing a ticket because I just haven't had any so any additional thoughts on what to expect?

Just dispute. You can talk to judge to get the fine reduced. If cop doesn't show up, the ticket is thrown out.
