I'm not sure if they updated their system since my high school days, but you can call Nike and report a defect. I believe any shoe within 2 years of the manufacturing date are covered under their warranty. The data is located on the sizing tag by the tongue usually. Anyways you send in your pair of shoes with the claim/report ID. They assess the damage and send you a new pair of the same shoe if available or a pair of similar value, if they find that it was due to regular wear and tear.
The process is quite slow though for them to send something back so I tend to forget about it. Comes as a nice surprise though when I actually finally receive it.
Worth a shot, I haven't been denied yet.
