If your looking into a potential ferry, why not Northern Oregon Coast? Nice driving roads, twists, ocean view, coastal cities, no tolls, no ferry needed.
I make the drive once a year with the BRZ. Would strongly recommend. Stay out of Ecola Park and you'll be fine pretty much anywhere. Hotels are reasonably prices in seaside, OR also. 3 day trip is easy. 5 hour trip. Easy win.
