I'm starting to think that JWR actually got bounced from MOJ/AG over certain issues relating to the Indigenous Rights framework she was leading that intended to replace the Indian Act.

Some key articles from the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples;

Article 10

Quote:
Indigenous peoples shall not be forcibly removed from their lands or territories. No relocation shall take place without the free, prior and informed consent of the indigenous peoples concerned and after agreement on just and fair compensation and, where possible, with the option of return.
Article 28

Quote:
Indigenous peoples have the right to redress, by means that can include restitution or, when this is not possible, just, fair and equitable compensation, for the lands, territories and resources which they have traditionally owned or otherwise occupied or used, and which have been confiscated, taken, occupied, used or damaged without their free, prior and informed consent.
The UNDRIP generally establishes that without the free, prior, and informed consent of FN people you can't develop anything, it essentially provides the FN with veto power over any sort of development in Canada.

Shockingly, this declaration was adopted by virtually all UN member that don't have any domestic issues with an indigenous population, note the countries that voted against...

Quote:
The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) was adopted by the General Assembly on Thursday, 13 September 2007, by a majority of 144 states in favour, 4 votes against (Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States) and 11 abstentions (Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burundi, Colombia, Georgia, Kenya, Nigeria, Russian Federation, Samoa and Ukraine).
That framework JWR developed was generally written to align with UNDRIP, it would have grossly empowered FN in Canada.

Assuming I'm correct, I must give some credit to our flakey idiotic PM and his cabinet of smug failures for rejecting this sort of legislation.

We really haven't obtained closure, the Libs clammed up and refused to consider any further investigations. Really the only missing piece we have is testimony from JWR on everything that happened from January 7th on after she was bumped from her role as MOJ/AG.
