on a serious note, to play devil's advocate to yray, if you consider the fire alarm tech route, go invest the time to be a sparky, and get exp & be good at FA work, you can work for FA tech companies, or be the FAG for electrical firms...
you'll never be out of work. there's always need an electrician that knows what the fuck they're doing with fire alarm systems.
my 2 cents, that's about all it's worth...
