High mileage '07 E93 6spd 328i here.
Bought it for cheap at around 195k ~6 months ago, about to hit 200k.
Almost every motor and trans-related gasket was leaking except for the head and RMS. Got all those done almost immediately after purchase. 6 new plugs and leads.
Replaced serpentine belt, tensioner, tensioner pulley.
Did the PS pump, reservoir, and reservoir lines.
All four struts were blown and pissing oil, got those swapped out for coils.
The hydraulic bushings in the front tension arms recently cracked, replaced both arms entirely including new ball joints.
All four LED tail light tubes broke, requiring four new tail light assemblies as the LED tubes aren't serviceable.
Replaced entire rear parking brake mechanism as old ones were seized, but having issues with it again.
Replaced the A-pillar roof seal as the previous one was old and brittle causing water to leak in from the A-pillar roof joint area.
Bought the car as it was pretty dirt cheap from an old Hungarian lady who taught Zumba and really just wasn't appreciating the car. Was able to overlook all the deficiencies because I really wanted a convertible and the roof mechanism was and continues to operate flawlessly sans needing a roof alignment at the stealership soon. Got a 2-stage polish and the car looks like it's been driven barely a fraction of what it's actually done. Still drives very well and shifts without any issues.
Reliable? Depends on how you define reliable. If poorly-designed wear-and-tear items continuously breaking down constitutes to a car being unreliable (i.e. PS reservoir, water pump), then you won't like BMWs.
