Thing is, in Calgary you can literally shop for different/better rates.
And when I say shop, I mean SHOP.

The first year in Calgary, my GF and I were quoted something like 3k for insurance on our 97 Escort per year. After a bit of shopping, I got that down to about 1700/year from another place. Decent, but nothing spectacular.

When it was time to renew the insurance, I did more shopping and the following year found another broker offering the same level of insurance for just under 1k/year. If we were to stay in Calgary longer, I'm certain our rates would have dropped even further (no accidents, getting older so lower chance of accidents etc.).
