It may have been found for that reason, but settlements were established to spread Catholicism by the French, and Protestantism by the British.
You have to understand at that time religion was the highest understanding for life itself. It was the reason for everything known to man.

I honestly don’t know currently what it would be, but I know for the majority of my demographic, even if you are religious, you would be smart enough to understand it’s lack of relevance in public policy, especially in a country with as many different religions and ideological groups as Canada.
