I've been watching too many sci-fi movies. Spores. Like Alien: Covenant. Gas masks, unless you wear the kind that covers the entire head, don't cut it when the spores enter through ears.

No this is absolutely a concern. If it hits enough people, and it's hitting a LOT, it's going to start mutating. Much like how we have a different influenza every year.
Someone asked if HK Canadians are considering moving back. If this becomes a seasonal "flu" coming from China every year, that's when I'd consider leaving.
For now, this is my home, and I just deal with it.
