Well sure you don't mind. Because like most formerly communist countries, China is a hybrid now.
I highly doubt you'd feel this way living there between between 1940-80 when the policy was work hard and get nothing in return.
And yes, the pollution and safety standards are absolutely political. Consequences of a system that is unaccountable to its people.
