My B8 S4 was a great car in your price range - pretty good handling, supercharged engine was a gem, awd could take on any snow.
Now I have a F80 M3 - out of the box pretty much track ready, comfortable enough daily (bit stiff), minor changes needed like camber plates and brake pads etc to dial it in.
However both cars needed 1 or 2 things done repair wise. Both bills were $4-5k all said and done. What I've learned is no matter the car, if its German and you're going to push it to do what it's capable of - you're going to have pretty big bills to take care of.
I think the M2 is the sweet spot with N55. Track dynamics are great, size is perfect for what you're looking for. Surprisingly affordable with financing as BMW rates usually are.
