Of course it was. Reality TV is always scripted. Maybe not as in "written out as a script" but it's all bullshit. They take whatever footage they get, and portray the story they want to tell. Even if this is one of the 'less dramatic' shows, it's still storytelling.
And people are just getting "worked" by it by getting upset at what the "characters" do.
The problem is, the "characters" are often real people who aren't always in on it. And the shit they have to deal with it unreal. Even actors in fictional stories get shit from people, like that Viet actress from Star Wars.
There are just no consequences for acting like trash on the internet, generally speaking. So it brings out the worst in people. I used to act shitty to people too, without considering that I am talking to actual people online. I changed things up after I realized how upsetting it can be, even if it's just "playing up a role" to generate "heat".
This is still fucking me up, though alcohol is helping a bit. I should be able to at least get some sleep
