Because warranty starts by delivery date of the appliances. Warranty claim needs document to prove date of delivery.
Some brands, the warranty starts from installation completion date. Such as Sub Zero/Wolf/ Miele/ Gaggenau...etc.

Will places like Best Buy even give you a receipt if you aren't the original owner? Isn't that a violation of privacy? And if they do, would you only need the serial number?
