After the dissolve of the dixiecrats, of the 26 representatives, only 3 transferred to the Republican party. The rest became Democrats where they would continue to oppose the civil rights acts of 1957, 60, and 64.
You can look that up if you like. The political switch theory is an attempt to rewrite history.
The cold truth is the Democrat party has always been the party of slavery, opposition to civil rights, segregation, and racism.
The Republican party freed the slaves, fought for civil rights, free market, and the constitution.
