I'm a manual transmission stickler and will usually recommend it but if you're looking at the golf R the DSG is probably the way to go. I test drove both when I was looking at upgrading my then speed3 to something newer. The DSG was surprisingly more fun. I also looked into tuning and apparently the manual golf R clutch will slip at stock powers and its more evident with tunes
