But gosh... I hate manufacturers intentionally adding those stupid pops and farts into the exhaust. If they were gonna do it, at least make it a driver-selectable mode that only affects the exhaust note (but don't tie it in with anything else like ECU maps / modes).

According to Albert Bierman (the designer), it crackles and pops because they wanted to spool the turbos between shifts, the crackles pops were just an added bonus.
I think it's loud enough to piss off neighbors. It's probably 40i loud, but the cracks is what is the loudest
