Here's a video I found when researching a car that shows smt interesting with db reader:

oem eco: 95db (highest)
oem sport: 102db
oem n mode: 100db

Not scientific at all, but exactly the way VPD is doing it. Even a stock Veloster N wouldn't pass LOL
