I’d say because Japan used to be the leader in affordable innovation. Just look at the modern sports cars the blue collar enthusiast can get. Lots of choices in hot hatches from Ford/vw/Hyunda, great driving muscle cars like the mustang/camaro/corvette, the European ///M or AMG (used of course) are supercar fast.
Mazda has the miata. Nissan has a 370z based on a 350z from 2002. Toyota has a bmw made “supra”. Honda has the CTR (which is great) but no s2000 replacement. You have some Lexus which are only softer GT cars in automatic. Infiniti does have the q60 which is a pretty sick car.
For the current 2020 model, exactly what does japan provide us that Europe or America can’t match (and the latter, at quite a cost saving)
