My smartass response was “let me see your badge”. Well he obliged, showed me his badge to prove he was a police officer there due to a rash of recent car thefts and I felt like the biggest idiot ever  |
Well I would hope most people would ask for a badge if some random plain clothed dude asked you for ID out of nowhere lol, that seems pretty reasonable to me.
